Tiger Tiger
Happy Year of the Tiger!
We are kicking of the Chinese New Year by losing our cat, BaoBao. About two weeks ago, Teak tore the screen window out on our balcony. He could then walk out on the tiny ledge of our apartment. BaoBao, who just turned three had never even jumped up on anything higher than a sofa until Drai started walking. Now she gets up there to avoid him. She too, started climbing out on the ledge a week ago, which worried me as she is not as agile as Teak is. Actually, a St.Bernard is probably more agile than she is.
Bao Bao is cute but not bright at all. Actually, she is pretty dumb but I totally adore her as she always wants to be pet and never really does anything bad like Teak. She is a purebred Persian and like a second child to Jenny. So we woke up yesterday and didn't see her but didn't think anything of it because she always sleeps in the morning. Around 11:30 Jenny asked if I had seen her. I said I hadn't and she assumed she must be sleeping in Drai's room. We didn't want to wake him to go check.
When he did get up, we found she wasn't there, so she must have climbed out on the ledge during the night and fallen. There are two stray cats that live in the garden below, so I am pretty sure they would have chased her out of the area. So we have now been spending our spare time wondering the neighborhoods looking for her. Her name means, "Baby" in Chinese. I think all the neighbors think I am a horrible father because they always see me walking with Drai every morning. Now they just see me walking by myself, looking under cars and next to hedges shouting for my baby. They are probably thinking, "Stupid foreigner lost his baby."
So anyways, it is a little ironic that year of the tiger starts by losing our cat.
We do get a week off next week which will be sweet. The weather is amazing right now. (Like August in Canada.) We aren't going anywhere special which is a bit of a drag but we are heading to Hong Kong in March, so that will be good. I wish I had just decided to spend the extra money and go to the Philippines again. I love that place. Flights are triple the price at this time of year though.
We can't wait to see my mom and Jim. And we are also going to meet Lindsay, Kyle and the kids in Hong Kong. I think it will be fun for Drai to have kids to play with for a few days.
I haven't been blogging much because my computer sucks and keeps crashing. I want to buy a Mac but feel guilty spending that much on a computer. On the other hand, I didn't go to Philippines so perhaps I deserve a new computer? Right?!!!
Anyways, all is good here and I will talk to you soon,
love,
Us.
This is Drai at the park today.
