Jerk Baby

We went to the clinic today to finally find out if we are having a boy or a girl. We have been putting off buying anything or decorating the nursery until we know the sex. Alas, our baby, who is apparently really stubborn and/or conservative refused to show us his/her private parts. It kept moving but every time it did, it would place a different body party in the way. After about 3 minutes of trying to coax the baby to move its foot, leg and hand and out of the way, the doctor finally gave up. So it will be yet another month before we can find out.
The baby is obviously taking after Jenny already though as I will pretty much show my genitalia to anyone. (And am totally not stubborn!)

The baby is hiding cause they don't like ultra-sounds or atleast that's what I've heard. Seriously.

I have asked several people and they say that it is scientifically impossible for the sound waves used by ultra-sounds to hurt anything. They use no radiation whatsoever.

Okay fine, but if she glows in the dark it's your fault.
Actually that would be good out here in the country cause when it's dark it's really dark but then you wouldn't know cause you would much rather go to a tropical island with palm trees and sand and drinks with umbrellas than come see my chickens...I'm crushed.

You and your guilt trips!!I wanted to go home but let's do the math.

Flight to Phillipines $350
(Don't miss any work and four hours of travel time.)

Flight to Vancouver, ferry etc. $2000
(Miss 2 weeks of work, so I am out another $1500. About 18 hours of travel time.)

Average cost of a meal in Boracay-
$6

Average cost of a meal in Canada- $25.

Babies are expensive and I was trying to be responsible while still taking advantage of having 5 days off. ;P

So what you're saying is you didn't want to come home? Just kidding!!
Hey, I totally understand, the scarey thing is that flights and everything else is getting soooo expensive. It's nuts. Uncle Mike is moving off Cortez cause the ferries are so expensive and they apparently just went up another 17%!

Actually... the effect of ultrasounds has never really been completely evaluated. There have been a number of studies that show increased ultrasounds lead to increased birth defects, learning difficulties, and neurological developmental disorders. However, because ultrasound technology continually changes (actually getting stronger, not weaker) the studies haven't conclusively shown anything. Much more dangerous than a standard ultrasound is the regular use of a hand-held doppler at the Dr's appointments, and the use of 3D and 4D ultrasound for non-therapeutic reasons (i.e. I want a cool picture of my kid's face). Even most ultrasound technicians - who feel regular ultrasound is perfectly safe - recommend against doing using those two treatments. This article from 2001 has a lot of information including some of the studies - http://www.mothering.com/articles/pregnancy_birth/birth_preparation/ultrasound-risks.html. This pregnancy we're not doing any doppler checks, and we never did a 3D for Luke and don't plan on doing one this time. From what I have read, its just not worth it... Just my two cents! :)
